Privacy Policy
Markly collects nothing and sends nothing. It makes no network requests of any kind. There is no account, no server, no analytics and no tracking. Everything you highlight stays in your browser, on your computer.
What Markly stores
When you highlight something, Markly saves the following to your browser's
local storage (chrome.storage.local) on your own device:
- the text you highlighted, and a short piece of the text either side of it, which is how the highlight is found again on your next visit
- the colour and style you chose, and any note you attached
- the address and title of the page, so the panel can list and reopen it
- your settings, including any sites you have switched Markly off for
Where it goes
Nowhere. This data never leaves your device. Markly has no backend, contacts no third parties, and includes no remotely hosted code, advertising, or analytics libraries. It is not synced between your devices — if you want your highlights elsewhere, you export them yourself.
Reading page content
To place a saved highlight back onto a page, Markly has to read that page's text in your browser. This happens entirely inside the tab. Page content is never transmitted, logged, or stored — apart from the specific passages you choose to highlight.
Your control
- Delete any highlight from the page or the panel, with an undo.
- Export everything as Markdown, or as a JSON backup you can restore later.
- Delete every highlight at once in Settings → Your data.
- Name any site in Settings → Sites and Markly will not run there.
- Uninstalling Markly removes all of its stored data along with it.
Children
Markly is a general-purpose reading tool. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be published here and the date below will change. Markly's no-data-collection design is not something we intend to revisit.
